...books, check em out...
#76 Read 50 books
For my birthday, DLo got me a NookColor... WOOT WOOT. I wasn't sure how I felt about it when I first started using it... I mean... I really like the feeling of putting my bookmark in a book and seeing how far I have to go... or skipping ahead to the next chapter to read the title... but... I know a few people that have gotten the NC... and I wanted to be a part of the cool kids club... so I had hinted this to DLo... and BAM... bday prezzie! :)
Well. I love it. I love having several books on there... so that the next one is just waiting for me to dive in! It's also going to be SO convenient when #3 comes... b/c I don't have to try to prop the book open and hold it there until I need to flip the page- all while holding the baby and the bottle! Haha! :)
So. So far I've read 2 books on my Nook. The first was:
I am obsessed with reading books that are turned into movies. I seriously love seeing what Hollywood can do and how close it matches with my imagination! I'm usually disappointed in how much is tweaked and changed, but still... it's alot of fun! (And gives me an excuse to go to the movies! haha!)
It's no secret to those who know me...that I totally have a crush on Mr. Robert Pattinson. Not just because he plays Edward Cullen (which... Mr. Pattinson... you're EC is not that great)... and not just because of all the other... hmmm... how shall we say this... "quality" movies he has been in... ::cough- Bad Mother's Handbook... coughcough- Remember Me::... but b/c I think he is adorable... his awkwardness, dorkiness... I dunno... he even looks a little like DLo to me... So. When I heard/saw the trailer for the movie... I knew that I would want to see it... and when I heard it was a book... I debated if I wanted to read it. ...But with the recommendation of a friend, I read it.
Water for Elephants is a story that follows the life of a young man named Jacob Jankowski. During his final days as a student at Cornell University... he learns that his parents have been in a tragic accident that leaves him with nothing. Devastated... Jacob takes off... running to who knows where... until he spots a train... and jumps on. But... this was no ordinary train... it belongs to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth!- a circus train. Luckily for Jacob... he was following his father's footsteps in becoming a veterinarian at Cornell... and instead of being thrown off the train over a trestle... the circus owner (Uncle Al) gives Jacob a job caring for the circus animals.
It's a super interesting story- and of course there's some forbidden love involved that totally had me hooked! ;) But the main thing I liked about the book is the story is all of Jacob's memories... b/c he's a 90 (or 93) year old man in an old folks home and he's as feisty as ever. :) Can you imagine the stories he had floating around in that old head of his?!
Downside to the book: ::sigh:: I just don't understand why Adult Fiction novels have to be crude sometimes. I mean... what is the point of adding some of that stuff? Water for Elephants didn't have a whole lot... but enough to annoy me. This is why I stick to Teen Fiction... the angsty romance minus the descriptive body parts.
Which brings me to the next book I read:
Wouldn't you freakin' know that this book is going to have a sequel. Gr. And that it won't be out until who knows when! (I actually think I heard that it's a trilogy???) But Jaime recommended it to me... and KT recommended it to her... so I read it. It was a short read- got done with it in a few days. And I really really liked it!
This is a story about a girl named Cassia who lives a perfect life built by the Society. It's the various Officials of the Society's job to make life as stress free as possible. Food is delivered to them with the proper nutrition... and disposed of in a recycle receptacle... they receive messages via port... they are even given 3 sets of pills that are supposed to aide them in life should they ever need (the blue gives nutrition, the green calms, and the red is a mystery)... Part of what makes life so perfect is that once 17, citizens can be "matched" based on a set of data that is collected all their lives. These boys and girls attend a banquet that will show them who their match is... and from there they can court and eventually marry and have children. The catch is... they are usually matched with someone from different provinces... so they don't usually know their match... but Cassia does. She's matched with her best friend- who she has grown up with- who she lived down the street from all her life! She and Xander are thrilled! It truly is perfect! Except. Except that when she puts the microchip into the port to read/watch more about Xander (b/c remember- they usually don't know their match, so receive the microchips to learn about their match), she sees not only Xander's face... but the face of someone else- very briefly... has she been matched to 2 people? Is her match to Xander wrong? And what's more bizarre- her being matched to someone she knows is a very rare thing... but she ALSO knows the other face she saw... Hmmmm. What in the world is happening? Everything is supposed to be perfect... fool proof... Soon everything Cassia has grown up to know becomes fuzzy... and she has to decide if she is going to go gentle... or rebel....

...Beastly...
#76 Read 50 Books
Hmph. So. I read this book b/c it was one of a STACK of books Miss Linds gave me. Oh my word! I mean. It was interesting. The book is based of the classic story of Beauty and the Beast... but with a modern twist. It is written with teens in mind for the target audience. Can I just say... if I was a teenager...or even a preteen... I would have felt that my intelligence was GREATLY insulted! Boy oh boy! The author, Alex Flinn, writes the way I would have in the 5th grade. And I wasn't that great of a writer! She tried too hard to be hip and cool...but her sentences run flat and have NO depth whatsoever. It was sometimes painful to read... but... I was interested in reading it since the movie is coming out soon... and I was thankful that it was, at the very least, a quick read. She has two other books that follow the same idea of classic fairytale gone modern... but... I think I'll pass.

...The Lovely Bones...
#76 Read 50 Books
Well. I've read 8 out of the 50 books (nine if you count that I read Mockingjay twice!) I'm working slowly but surely! It's been alot more difficult to find time to read once Emme became mobile...
Anywho. Hmmm. What to say about this book? Hmmmm. Well. I didn't like it. Not even a little bit. I wanted to read this because I've been wanting to see the movie- but wanted to read the book first. It's a story about a young 14 year old girl who was brutally assaulted and murdered on her way home from school. This tragedy rocks her little neighborhood and tears her family apart. The book follows the dead girl, Susie, in her afterlife...as she watches what unfolds on earth. It's creepy, really, how much she sees and who she watches. She so desperately wants her murder caught...but being a ghost or whatever she is kinda makes it difficult to do anything about it. ...but then...sometimes she can be seen...I.don't.know. It was all gruesome and sad and looooong! And I was bummed at the ending... I had some awesome ideas of how it should end... but I had more WTH moments than anything else! Blah!
I hope the movie is better...

...stupid bowl...
#86 Host a Superbowl Party
Hmmmm... I wish I could say that I had this awesome Superbowl party planned for weeks and weeks... but truth be told... the party was planned in.... um... a couple hours! LOL!
I had asked Derrick a few weeks before if he wanted to throw a party for the Superbowl... he didn't ever really answer me. Then we had gotten an evite to a party...but with two babies two and under is kinda a downer when it comes to big parties... it's hard to enjoy yourself when you're always looking out for the babies! :) So. That left us with the option of either 1. Derrick going to watch Superbowl alone (which really didn't bother me at all!) or 2. Having a last minute gathering at our house!
So. When Derrick got home from church, I headed out to the store to grab a bunch of munchies...and returned home to find the party a startin... LOL... I laugh because there were only 2 guys that came...so w/ them and DLo and I ...there was a total of four people at our "party"... six if you include Jude and Emme! Haha! A couple more showed up after the GREAT halftime show. It really was fun...and I would honestly always rather host a party than go to one! :)
Finally????
#37 Potty Train Jude
Well... I think we've done it! Homeslice is pretty much potty trained! I mean... he's had a few accidents- usually 1 a week... but he's in BIG BOY undies now! WOOT WOOT! We're going on week 4 of being dry at church... and he's dry almost every day after nap time! YEA!!! Now... if we could ONLY get him to TELL us when he has to pee... ::sigh:: I still have to take him every hour/hourhalf or so! But still...there is a light at the end of tunnel! :D

...Breaux...
#69 Be reunited w/ the Breaux Family
Oh my word... this one is WAY old...I'm talking...before Thanksgiving old. I.Fail. But...in all honesty...I had totally forgotten about my 101 in 1001 until Jaime recently updated hers! I had been SUPER obsessed with it...and then poof...it was out of my memory!
This is one of my favorite things that I've gotten to cross off. Love, Eddie, and Elijah Breaux. These are some of my FAVORITE people on the planet... (and for CERTAIN my favorite black people on the planet! bahahahaha- I bet some people cringed when I wrote that...but I can hear Love yelling "YES!" right now!) Anywho. Now that I've made people thoroughly uncomfortable!
I have known Love for...hmmm....math...math...math....8 years? I think that's about right... She started off student teaching at the school where I was a 4th grade teacher. She was known as the "mean teacher" b/c of her military "no nonsense" background... The following year...Love accepted a 5th grade position at the new school that my girlfriends and I were also transferring to. I could blog about the comedy of that whole situation...but to make a long story short- that first year, the teachers were all to sign up for a different committee... I thought I'd sign up for the safety commitee...b/c I'll be honest...it seemed like the one that would have the least amount of work! (la.zy.) But...our principal...let's call her... Priss Manica... decided that I would also be best fit in the "Multicultural Committee"...and guess who was also placed in said group? Hmmm. (I never bought the fact that Priss was "color blind"...never. Buahahahahaha) I digress. Our friendship, I'm pretty sure, started from that committee...laughing about how the "colored" girls were SO multicultural! Oy.
Our friendship grew and grew...and soon Love married the love of her life- Eddie. Eddie= quality man. For realz. We instantly loved Eddie...although he judged me and my shady stapling of bedsheets for "faux"tography backgrounds... LOL! And pretty soon...the Logans and Breauxs (do you add an s at the end?! so confusing!) were inseparable...and surely...SURELY every Friday night...you could find Eddie and DLo either 1. talking about music... or 2. playing Madden... and Kim and Love would either 1. be laughing at all the ridiculous people they work with (I will not lie...we did...alot...) or 2. passed out on the couch! buahahahahah! And Elijah...would no doubt be reenacting some Disney movie on our bed! LOL! Sure...sometimes we would be "working out" playing tennis on the Wii (I was so.certain. that Love was going to land IN the television set one day!) or sometimes the Salch family would join us for some cut-throat Scattergories (apple of my eye)... but you could be sure...that no matter what we were doing...there would be a HUGE chickfila chicken platter that the boys (ahem, DLo) would be devouring.
Then.
Then Love and Eddie decided to RUIN my life and go to Japan. JAPAN. Not even Korea... Japan. lol. ::sigh:: So... I've been patiently waiting for their 4 years there to be over... b/c even though we had great intentions to either meet half way (Hawaii anyone?!) or fly over to Japan one summer while visiting my grandparents in Korea...it just never happened...b/c well...I keep having kids!!!
But. Mr. Breaux had to come stateside...to AZ...this past November for some random drama w/ his babymama... and although it was unfortunate that Elijah's mom is...hmmm...not.smart.... we TOTALLY benefited from her retardedness!!! Eddie agreed to meet us up at Norterra for some Logan's Roadhouse (really, you didn't want Asian food???)...which was super generous of his time b/c he wasn't in town all that long...and he drove ALL the way from Gilbert or something ridiculous!
It was so wonderful introducing Eddie to our two kids...I was barely preggers w/ Jude when they left...and chat about all the things we've been up to...It was literally as if it were just any old Friday night (although it was Thursday) hangout...that 3+ years hadn't passed since we'd last seen each other. That- is true friendship! The ONLY thing that could have made it better... were if Love and Elijah could have been there too. ...but they were still in Japan. :(
I dunno if the Breaux family will be back in AZ when they are done w/ Japan...but regardless...this is a friendship that I will always treasure...(November 2010)

...Mockingjay...
#76- Read 50 books
Mockingjay was my book #7 of 50. I've been SO looking forward to this book...seeing as it is the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy. AND we have been waiting a YEAR to find out how it all ends!!! Oh my word!
This book reveals what happens after the Capitol destroys District 12...how Katniss survives the loss of her home...and rises above to become the symbol of the rebellion. Now living in District 13...Katniss and her best friend slash potential something more must find a way to get the other districts to join the rebellion and ultimately try and overthrow President Snow and the Peacekeepers in the Capitol. ...oh...and save Peeta, of course!
Oh my word. Did I EVER love this series...and this book did NOT disappoint! :) If you have NOT done so yet...you MUST read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and then Catching Fire and then Mockingjay! You will love it! :)
